Repeal the 1259% license fee increase for H41 Body arts establishments in the City and County of San Francisco

To:  City and County of San Francisco board of supervisors, Department of Health, and office of the Mayor

In 2009 The City and County of San Francisco imposed an unannounced fee increase of 1,259% for the renewal of all H41 class business licenses. This includes all tattooing, piercing, and body art establishments.
No notification was given to any of the business owners effected by this increase, and therefore, no opportunity to speak out against the change directly to the board of supervisors was provided.
The fee to renew this same license in 2007 was $107, it was increased modestly to $109 in 2008. This year it has skyrocketed to $1372.00
An increase of this kind is completely unprecedented and inappropriate. Many businesses in the H41 class are small operations and this hefty of a fee will present a devastating financial hardship. In addition, it will discourage smaller shops from being able to open up in the first place and foster an unhealthy environment for burgeoning small businesses.
We, the undersigned, believe that this kind of legislation should be handled in a more responsible, transparent manner, and that the businesses effected should be notified prior to it's passage.
Furthermore, we demand that this outrageous fee increase be repealed, and renegotiated to a more reasonable level.
