Health Insurance Reform |
To: U.S. GovernmentCalvin Coolidge once said that social progress is more likely to end with a government program than begin with a government program.
Too many Americans have left the health insurance market. Frivolous lawsuits, burdensome government mandates, regulations, restrictions and lack of competition are pricing Americans out of the market. Too many American families are left without any health insurance coverage.
More often than not hospitals and doctors find themselves catering to the needs and wants of insurance companies as opposed to treating their patients according to sound, professional medical expertise. The medical community should be allowed to utilize their professional expertise and follow the oath taken when first becoming a medical professional rather than adhere to rules and regulations imposed upon them from an insurance corporation which limits their ability to fully treat their patients.
American families are left carrying the burden not being properly treated, becoming sicker or faced with a life-threatening medical condition.
Suggested Reform:
Give Americans the option to purchase a low cost, basic health plan that best suits their needs, and not what the government says they need;
Remove government mandates and red tape that unnecessarily drive health insurance costs to an unaffordable level;
Allow small businesses to band together so they can leverage their purchasing power, ease their administrative burden and have more choices;
Discourage lawsuits that have no merit and drive health insurance costs up to an unaffordable level;
Encourage more competition and choices by making it easier for insurance companies to return to a competitive reformed insurance market;
Discourage HMOs and all other insurance companies from making the final health care decision. Give these decisions back to the medical community where they belong. Give hospitals and doctors back the tools they need to better treat the patient;
Stop the limitations imposed by HMOs and other insurance companies of time spent in the hospital and specific procedures they will or will not cover;
Each case should be decided individually by the professional medical community, not a third party insurance corporation.
Give every citizen the ability to carry affordable, effective health care coverage based on their level of household income, regardless of pre-existing conditions
