We the undersigned patrons and friends of the Andrew Heiskell Braille And Talking Book Library (Heiskell Library) urge the Administration of the New York Public Library (NYPL) not To reduce space available for our use at the Heiskell Library.

It has come to our attention that the NYPL Administration

intends to relocate NYPL'S Technology Unit, now housed at the Donnell Branch, to the fifth floor of the Heiskell Library.

This would result in a reduction in browsing space for Heiskell Library patrons.

The Heiskell Library is the only library in New York City
That houses Braille and audio books. It is the only place where we who are blind or visually impaired can browse through books That are accessible to us. Relocating the Technology Unit To the Heiskell Library would significantly reduce, if not eliminate, available browsing space.

We fought hard to get a browsing library, and it would be a
Grave injustice to have it reduced in order to accommodate
Administrative needs. We urge that no portion of the Heiskell
Library's facility be given over to any functions not directly
Related to the services it provides to its patrons.
