We the undersigned call on you to reverse the recent decision to deny services to vulnerable British Columbians based on an arbitrary IQ cut-off of 70. We urge your government to act immediately to provide the necessary resources and direction to ensure:
- All adults with developmental challenges who cannot live safely without support have timely access to appropriate services and supports;
- All children and youth with special needs have timely access to appropriate services to allow them to maximise their potential, with services delivered in their communities and based on individual need, not diagnostic labels;
- Families, agencies and caregivers who care for challenging adults and children are appropriately supported
- Appropriate transition planning and integration of service delivery to address major and worsening gaps in the current system.
