Please Ban Flexi leashes for pets |
To: All pet owners and APDTFlexi leashes have become very popular in the past few years.
We want them banned!
We have seen both dogs and people injured while using a Flexi leash on their pet. Owners have had their hands badly lacerated as the leash retracts and the owner has grabbed the line trying to control a dog. Technicians in veterinary hospitals have been cut by the Flexi line trying to control dogs when the Flexi leash handle has not been locked by the owner prior to handing the dog over to the veterinary staff. One dog had her hock smashed when the owner tripped, dropped the leash and the flexi leash retracted rapidly, breaking the bones almost beyond repair.
We feel these leashes do not give the owner enough or complete control over their pet. When a dog lunges at another dog who is across a street, the owner can lose control. If a dog is attacked by another the owner using the Flexi leash cannot "haul" the dog in on the line fast enough to gain control. A dog could be hit by a car and possibly killed before the owner has time to reel the dog in.
There are other types of leashes that give your dog freedom, keep the dog safe and allow better control than any Flexi. Flexi leashes are so dangerous!! Please help stop our companion animals and people from being hurt.
Please sign this petition.Sincerely,
