SUPPORT FOR KENIDI SEAMAN & THE ESSENTIAL SKILLS CLASSES AT & AROUND CG SCHOOLS









Kenidi Seaman is due to be in kindergarten at Center Grove Elementary this year. (her “home” school) She was a child born with hypotonia (low muscle tone) and Epilepsy at birth. These medical issues have classified her as moderately developmentally delayed. Thus, requiring that she be placed in the Essential Skills (special Ed) program while attending kindergarten general education classes this fall. However, after being told she would attend her home school, the Center Grove School Board and Superintendent has decided to move the "special needs" class out of Center Grove Elementary School to "make space" for the "accelerated" or high abilities classes being introduced into their curriculum at CG Elementary this year. Therefore, Kenidi would need bussed into an alternate school within the district in order to still benefit from the Essential Skills class she needs. Thus meaning that she will be separated from her own brother and her neighbor friends that provide familiarity and comfort for her. Although we agree that CG elementary should be given the right to house a high abilities program, we don’t agree with the fact that in order to house that program, they will be moving the essential skills class out and into other schools within the district. These children deserve as much normalcy and familiarity as possible given their medical conditions. Also, we feel this is a disservice to normal and healthy typical peers within the schools that the program is being removed and transferred from. Healthy children need to be taught that the world is a melting pot full of many different abilities and disabilities. Many special needs children cannot handle this type of change in their environment. By signing below, your signature represents that you are against this decision just as we are.
