Keep The Kitty

Hello, my name is Kristin Kliemt. Recently my 86 year old grandmother had her first State Court appearance in Fulton County for “a charge of theft of lost or mislaid property.” She plead not-guilty to this misdemeanor and is asking for a Jury Trial. This charge was brought upon her two years ago when a neighbor accused her of taking her cat. Instead of arresting my grandmother, the police wrote her a summons and let her keep the cat as long as she promised to appear in court.

About three years ago, my grandfather and her husband of 60 years, passed away. She was having a terrible time with this (and on some days, still is) when her neighbor noticed a stray kitten hanging around his house. He thought this kitten might help my grandma in her loss and offered this starving animal to her as a gift. She took in the kitten with loving arms and fed it and got it all its shots and even had it spayed. She named the kitty, Shatzie, which is my grandfather’s sister’s name in German.

Nearly a year went by before this Kimberly Otey comes from across the golf course claiming that the cat is hers and that she bought it for her daughter (which is a lie since it was part of a litter of the cat she currently owns). She literally ripped the cat out of my grandmother’s arms after making this accusation. My grandmother told her to call the police if she wanted the cat and so she did. Even her husband told her to leave the issue alone and they could get their daughter another kitten.

The case was presented at the City of Roswell last year and was moved to Fulton County. It has now been three years since the cat has been with my grandmother and thinks of her as her loving owner and is happy in her home. The State Court is trying to charge my grandmother with the theft of this animal which simply is not true.

Please sign this petition in favor of my grandmother, Fauniel Kliemt, keeping this kitty. This cat is all she has and we fear that it will be the end of her if it is taken away. With her health deteriorating and the depression she is already in from the loss of my grandfather, she cannot take much more. Please help us in this battle!
