Special Tony Awards for "Lifetime Achievement" in the theatre honor an individual for the body of his or her work. Tony Honors are announced in the autumn.
The time has come for NATHAN LANE to join a select group of extraordinarily talented actors and directors who have achieved this high honor.
His talent has in a fundamental way advanced the art. His accomplishments have been acknowledged by critics, professional peers and the general public and his work has stood the test of time.
He won two Tony Awards as Best Actor (Musical): in 1996 for playing Pseudolus in a revival of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum;" and in 2001 for playing Max Bialystock in "The Producers, the Mel Brooks musical." He was also nominated in the same category in 1992 for playing Nathan Detroit in a revival of "Guys and Dolls."
We are petitioning The Administration Committee of "The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards" to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Nathan Lane.
