A Call To Action; Enough Is Enough! |
To: Governor Jindal & LA Legislator'sA CALL TO ACTION PETITION
Enough is Enough!
Organized by a Coalition of Concerned Citizens
Our beautiful state and its people, long burdened by poverty, has for too long been near the bottom of every quality of life measure. As a result of negligence and poor investments made by our government officials, almost a quarter of all Louisiana’s children are poor. Over 120,000 workers are unemployed, and 21 percent of Louisianans of working age don’t have a high school diploma. Because of the failure to invest more in health care for the poor, over 600,000 men, women and children are uninsured. Because we do not control housing costs or require that our companies pay living wages, 43 percent of renters pay at least a third of their income on rent, and 17 percent of homeowners spend a third of their take-home wages on their mortgages.
These grim facts can change, if Governor Jindal and the State legislature capitalize on the opportunity that is President Obama’s federal economic stimulus package and make wise decisions about how to use that money and our state tax dollars. If you want:
All of the stimulus money (American Recovery Reinvestment Act)
No cuts in education, Medicaid or health care; A suspension of certain tax credits until budget deficit is resolved
Elimination of the use of LEAP testing to determine promotions in public schools
An end to state school takeovers
Government accountability and transparency
Support of massive voter participation to deepen and expand democracy in Louisiana
Support of workers rights and high quality jobs
Equal pay for all women
Community reinvestment in inner-city communities
Immediate rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast
Please sign our petition.
Sincerely,
