Re: Lucky Charms cereal

We suggest that you use kosher/halal marshmallows in Lucky Charms instead of what you currently use. Non-kosher and non-halal (known as “haraam” in Islam) marshmallows, the kind currently used in Lucky Charms, contain pork products. As you may be aware, both Muslims and Jewish people are not allowed to eat pork as it is considered bad in their respective religions. If you use kosher/halal marshmallows instead, you will appeal to more customers, including both Jewish people and Muslims.

Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in the world. However, given that Lucky Charms contains pork products (marshmallows), Muslims and Jewish people cannot eat them. There are around 1.5 billion (1) (exactly 1,482,596,925) Muslims – 26% of the population – in the world, according to the 1996 census! This number is most likely higher now, considering that the 2000 census predicted that there would be 1,902,095,000 Muslims at that time(1). That means that one in every four people in the world is a Muslim. Jewish people in the world make up another 18 million people (less than 1%)(2) on top of that.

If that is too global, let me tell you about the United States. In the U.S., the Muslim population makes up more than 3.75% of the total population(1). That’s almost ten million Muslims in the U.S. alone (exactly 9,992,860) out of the entire U.S. population of 266,476,278. In addition, there are another 6 million Jews in the U.S. (1).

The cost ratio for using halal/kosher marshmallows in Lucky Charms far outweighs the profit gained by selling to more customers, such as Muslims and Jewish people. We urge you to please switch from regular marshmallows to halal/kosher marshmallows so that more peoplecan enjoy my favorite cereal.
