We, the undersigned, urge the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to expedite the landmark designation of the Proposed East Village / Lower East Side and East 10th Street Historic Districts. Although the districts' buildings are currently considered calendared for LPC's public hearing and therefore enjoy some level of protection, they do not have full protection from demolition or defacement which would only come from landmark designation. Therefore the LPC must move as quickly as possible to schedule the public hearing and vote to landmark these districts before more of their historic buildings are razed or stripped of ornament! We ask that the hearing date be scheduled no later than early 2012.
