Lupe Fiasco's record label, Atlantic, has not set a future release date for his third studio album, "Lasers". "Lasers" is currently one of the most anticipated rap albums to be released, and is in popular demand by fans.
Lupe Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, has stated to Australian radio station TripleJ, that "Lasers" has been submitted to Atlantic and he is currently awaiting details on a release date, or if it will be released by the record label. To quote Lupe: "Its one of the sadder parts of being on a major record label. At a certain point its out of your hands. About a date for Lasers, its truly on them. I have no idea what theyre going to do."
This is just a generic, industry statement. No one knows what Lupe personally believes, but all the Lupe Fiasco fans are growing impatient after many misleading release dates, rumors, and now this delay.
Lupe Fiasco's last album, "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool", was released in 2007 and peaked at #14 on the US Billboard 200, #1 on the US Billboard Top Rap Albums, and #4 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. "The Cool" has sold over 500,000 albums and was certified gold, while Lupe's first studio album, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor", peaked to #8 on the U.S. Billboard 200, #2 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Rap Albums. Lupe's biggest success was the release of his 2007 song from "The Cool" entitled, "Superstar" with close musical associate Matthew Santos, peaked at #10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Lupe Fiasco is a musical success and is worth any investment: he sells, and is a very well respected musician. As a fan of Lupe Fiasco, I have written this petition to gather the attention of Atlantic, and urge them to publish "Lasers" soon, and give an exact release date.
