We the undersigned request Lane County government keep the Lane Events Center campus open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Specifically, we request that the pedestrian gates at Monroe Street and 13th avenue and near Friendly Street and 16th avenue remain open during daylight hours for the following reasons:

The Lane Events Center is a publicly owned campus supported by local tax dollars.
This area serves as an important, safe link in our walking and bicycle transportation system.
Gate closures impair bicycle and pedestrian connectivity to two nearby schools: Cesar Chavez and the Arts and Technology Academy.
The large area provides important open space value for neighboring residents.
Access and visual surveillance by legitimate users is a proven deterrent to criminal activity.
