A Request For The Re-Release of Super Metroid |
To: All Those Involved in the Creation and Promotion of the Metroid FranchiseTo whom it may concern:
We, the fans of the Metroid series, both in the United States and across the globe, enjoy the games that have been licensed and created since 1986, when Gumpei Yokoi brought his vision onto the NES. The associated mangas that have been produced, along with the hit title Metroid Prime have all but brought new life to the Metroid series, a life that we as the fans would love to see taken to a higher level.
With the recent release of Metroid: Zero Mission, we have seen how good of a job you as a company have done in taking a past storyline and recreating it, updating it to be more current, and overall doing a spectacular job with a new addition to the series. Therefore, it is the intent of this petition to request that one of the all-time best Super Nintendo titles, Super Metroid, be re-released to the public, perhaps on the Game Boy Advance system.
Now what we are asking is not anything too major, we hope. It is at least my intent to only request a simple port of the game. Clearly much effort went into creating Metroid: Zero Mission, and I sincerely think that bringing back the game that Zero Mission, Fusion, and even Prime (to a degree) take their influence from could greatly benefit the franchise.
We've seen you bring back the original Metroid as an unlockable feature in Metroid Prime and Zero Mission. Perhaps the upcoming Metroid Prime II could feature this as a respective unlockable, although I know a great many fans would rather see it as its own individual title. Super Metroid was certainly big enough; at the time of its release, it boasted itself as the largest Super Nintendo title to date.
A quote was recently made by Mr. Yoshoi Sakamoto in an interview regarding Super Metroid:
"Maybe if the fan base in the US decided it really needed to have Super Metroid as-is on the Game Boy Advance, then we might look at doing something like that."
It is this quote that has inspired the creation of this petition, and I can guarantee that it is not only individuals in the US fanbase that would appreciate this. From all the time I've spent in the public arena in forums and chatrooms, I know I am not alone in this request.
If you are undecided in the manner, we request that you take a generalized poll on Nintendo's website. I'm sure that would garner some response, or even further, taking a look at some of the professional websites that have dedicated themselves to covering the Metroid series - websites such as Metroid HQ (http://metroid.retrofaction.com), Metroid Database (http://classicgaming.com/mdb), Metroid2002 (http://www.metroid2002.com), and the hundreds of others out there that cover this cult-classic of a game series.
In summary, we the fans of the Metroid franchise, would very much like to see Super Metroid re-released to the public. While any form of revamping would be an additional bonus, we are completely satisfied with merely bringing the title as a port. With the recent resurgence in the Metroid community, and with Metroid Prime II in development, we feel that this would be a perfect time to address such an issue. We appreciate your time, we hope that you consider our ideas, and we wish you luck in whatever path you choose.Sincerely,
