WE THE UNDERSIGNED hereby petition the above to do all in their power to pass H.Res.600 recognising Michael Jackson as an "American legend and music icon."
The Resolution, as introduced by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee and referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on June 26 2009, recognises Michael Jackson as "an accomplished recording and performing artist" and "a noted humanitarian." It was co-sponsored by 12 other Representatives.
It is unconscionable that politics should play a part in Rep. Nancy Pelosi categorically refusing to allow passage of the Resolution. Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges against him in June 2005. He is therefore innocent and undeserving of such disrespect in death.
We ask that all Representatives put aside their personal opinion of him and that a vote at least be allowed to take place regarding the Resolution's passing.
Michael Jackson spent his life spreading his message of love and world awareness.
All statements in Resolution 600 are fact and not subject to any debate.
Michael Jackson brought much joy through his music and charity work. In fact he donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity throughout his life.
It is only appropriate that he be recognised for his life's work.
The text of the Resolution can be found at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.RES.600:
