To:  President Hodge

As alumni of Miami University, we are writing in support of staff, students, faculty and community members who have been working for years to implement a living wage policy for employees of the University. We are saddened and angry at the lack of action during your tenure as:

* The hourly pay of Miami University allows approximately 40\% of the full time classified staff to fall below the living wage required for one wage earner and two children;

* Miami's wages rank lowest among all other Ohio state schools for custodians, food service and maintenance workers, and 2nd lowest for groundskeepers;

* The University Senate and the Graduate Student Association passed resolutions in support of a living wage;

* Your administration has rejected attempts by Miami students and workers to negotiate in good faith.

Until Miami University implements a living wage policy as outlined in the Students for Staff Proposal for a Living Wage, we will withhold donations to the University. Additionally, we will encourage fellow alums and potential future donors to withhold contributions to a University that seems to love and honor the poverty wages it forces on the very workers that make it successful.

We will instead contribute our money to fund efforts by Miami students and workers to organize themselves to win a living wage for everyone employed by our alma mater.
