Dog Owners May Boycott Travel To Maine

To:  Maine Governor, Legislature, Dept. of Agriculture

WHEREAS, Maine Director of Animal Welfare Norma Worley has close ties to the Humane Society of the United States, a radical animal rights group that ultimately is opposed to the private ownership of animals in America;

WHEREAS, Director Worley has created a hostile relationship with Maine dog and kennel owners during her tenure;

WHEREAS, Director Worley has shown complete disregard for the civil rights of dog and kennel owners during her tenure, in matters of unconstitutional searches and seizures, and denial of due process under the law;

WHEREAS, Director Worley has drafted and promoted legislation in LD 964 and other bills that infringes on the rights of dog owners, treats them arbitrarily and unfairly, denies them the right to a trial in a court of law and the right to an appeal, and abrogates the basic right to own and enjoy private property.

We the undersigned citizens of the United States of America and Canada do hereby petition Maine Governor John E. Baldacci, Maine Agriculture Commissioner Seth Bradstreet III, and the leadership of the Maine Legislature, to:

1. Immediately dismiss Norma Worley from her position as Maine animal welfare director;

2. Replace Ms. Worley with a candidate who is both qualified for the position and also is supportive of the rights and activities of people who raise dogs;

3. And to completely reject LD 964, which unfairly and unconstitutionally regulates people who raise or breed dogs.

Let it be known that the signatories of this petition do not live in the State of Maine, but visit that state on occasion or frequently for vacations, hunting and fishing, business and to attend canine events.

Let it also be known that it is our intention to refrain from all travel to Maine for any purpose if Ms. Worley remains in her position, and/or if LD 964 becomes law.

Let it also be known that we will ask our friends, acquaintances and associates to also boycott travel to the State of Maine for any reason as long as Ms. Worley retains her position, and/or if LD 964 becomes law.

Let it also be known that our intention is to visit and spend money only in states or provinces that have demonstrated a supportive and friendly stance toward people who raise dogs.
