We the undersigned are concerned about the welfare of the approximately 260 small dogs taken from Delores Perez during a recent raid on what appears to be a typical puppy mill in Union County, NC. They were in horrifying conditions that defy her excuse of a hard winter as being the reason for this blatant abuse. The animals were filthy, ill, some as old as 10 and pregnant, others recently had given birth but there was no sign of their puppies. Dogs were cover in excrement, infested with worms, covered with sores and had other long-time physical ailments that had never been tended.
This is NOT Ms Perez first offense. She should, in our opinion, NEVER be allowed to keep these or any other dogs again. She should be required to reimburse the Animal Welfare Organizations that have spent thousands of hours and an unknown amount of money to groom and treat these animals medically. She should be responsible for the veterinarian and other medical bills. Allegations of her having been charged in other states for similar offenses are being investigated now. DO NOT EXCUSE THIS HEINOUS BEHAVIOR. Make North Carolina a sane, civilized place for the helpless creatures whose care is our responsibility.
Thank you.
