New England Sports Network (NESN) for all of New England

Major League Baseball has restricted New England Sports Network (NESN) from being aired in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and other portions of Southern Connecticut. Its reasoning is that this region of the state is considered the “New York Tri-State Area” and that it’s Yankee territory. I, along with others in the state of Connecticut, feel that this reasoning is insufficient, and that it should have no bearing on New England residents who wish to watch the Red Sox, a New England team, on a New England television station. All other areas of the state receive the channel as part of their basic cable package, free of additional charge. Although there are other methods of watching the games on television, they are not always delivered through NESN, which caters its broadcast to the fans of the teams. It is our right as Connecticut residents, to be able to receive NESN as a part of our cable package, across the board, since the entire state of Connecticut itself is considered to be “New England.”

This petition is to be sent to Major League Baseball, local news outlets, and state politicians, and NESN itself in an effort to convince Major League Baseball that NESN is coveted by a large portion of residents in the area it currently restricts and should be available for broadcast to the state of Connecticut in its entirety. New England sports teams have a vast fan base in this area of the state, regardless of its proximity to New York, and should be allowed the same rights as the rest of New England to watch these sporting events.

The object of this petition is to collect the names and contact information of supporters in and outside of this region who feel that the MLB restriction is unfair and the cause for action is legitimate.

Please show your support by signing this petition. Together we can succeed in urging Major League Baseball to broadcast New England Sports Network to ALL areas of New England.
