The Transaction Fee model was trumpeted as a better mode of Remuneration than Commission and the Airlines had also agreed to levy the same on tickets issued by them.
The Airlines have now shown their true colours and it is very evident now that they were just leading the Travel Agents on to suit their own Agenda.
This turnaround by the Airlines does not come as a surprise after your comment on the revenue model to be adapted by travel agents
Travel Agents had since foreseen the intentions of the Airlines when they suggested the Transaction Fee concept and had predicted that the sunset would take place even before 31st December 2008.
The Airlines in India will sell their products cheaper than the Agents thereby wiping out the individual Agent concept and promoting Consolidation.
Travel Agents will continue to fight for Commission as Remuneration
and this was emphasised on 20th November at the Constitution Club in New Delhi . Our staunch resolve was understood and appreciated by the MPs present who assured us of the support of the Opposition and a few of the Ruling Parties when Parliament convenes on 10th December, 2008.
Our Issue will be raised in the Parliament on 15th December by the MPs. To coincide with this, IAAI has organized a massive Meeting of Travel Agents at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on 15th December at 10:30 am and a march to the Parliament at 12 noon.
A Petition has been drawn up to be submitted to the Petition Committees of both the Lok Sabha & the Rajya Sabha requesting for our legitimate Commission of 5\% inclusive of the Fuel Surcharge. To submit this Petition, we require the original signatures of every IATA Travel Agent in India .
Hence, it is now very clear that no amount of talks with the Airlines is going have any results and travel agents has decided to file for IATA Arbitration for our legitimate right for Remuneration as per the IATA Resolution 824.9 contained in the PSA Agreement.
We hereby request you to intervene and protect the interests of million of people depending on this trade
