Repeal The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act

To:  U.S. Congress

We the undersigned, hereby urge all our elected members of congress, to support any and all efforts to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that was included as an attachment to the Safe Port Act passed in October 2006.

Where as, this amendment was attached to a totally unrelated national security bill, and passed in the dead of night, with absolutely no debate on the merits of the UIGEA. We ask that you take any steps necessary to overturn this terrible wrongdoing.

Where as, we believe, gambling is not inherently immoral, nor illegal as it is sanctioned and sponsored by the governments of many US States. Gambling is a form of entertainment, and is treated so by most Americans. As American citizens, we believe we have the right to use the technology of the day, the Internet, to gamble if we so desire, in the privacy of our own homes.

Where as, we believe that history has proven that prohibition is not a solution to social issues, it only paves the way for organized crime to flourish in area’s once served by legitimate and public companies, in open competition with each other.

Where as, we believe that the monitoring and regulation of Internet gambling, offers greater protection against the involvement of minors or problem gamblers, than the unregulated industry this law will create.

Where as, we believe that the business of Internet Gambling can be monitored as to fairness, regulated, and taxed, providing billions of dollars to be used for the common good of all US citizens.

Where as, we believe the Internet is the future, it is where we go to communicate, learn, shop, vote, and entertain ourselves. We ask that you repeal the UIGEA, and give us back our rights as adult American citizens, to entertain ourselves with the games we enjoy, using the Internet from the privacy of our own homes.

We ask for your support in repealing the law that US Congressman Barney Frank has called “the stupidest law I have ever seen”. Do the right thing, repeal the UIGEA.
