Support a national retail sales tax (H.R. 2525). End the oppressive income tax!

To:  House Ways and Means Committee, President Bush

Whereas, the current United States tax code is complex and confusing, a burden on the American people, costly to enforce, and government officials could create a simpler system if they chose;

Whereas, the income tax is a way government officials can exert power over the financial lives of the American people by making us work for them instead of them for us, keeping us from being truly free as citizens;

Whereas, the founding fathers, in the Federalist Papers and other sources, abhorred the idea of an income tax and instead thought taxation on consumption (sales tax) to be the best method of taxation;

Whereas, the income tax being expanded to most Americans during WWII was intended to be temporary to help with the war situation, not around decades later;

Whereas, the American people deserve a different tax system that:

1. Has people keep all of their paycheck and after retirement, all of their pension
2. Makes any tax increase clearly visible to taxpayers
3. Repeals the payroll, income, estate, and gift taxes, allowing the American people to be free financially
4. Gives America a competitive advantage over other countries (surveys and studies, including those done by Harvard, indicate this type of tax would help us tremendously and give us an edge over other countries, as well as attract many businesses to the USA)
5. Sends a monthly check to individuals to allow them to pay for anything they choose up to the poverty line, helping the poor and others pay for necessities and yet still have all of the rest of their paycheck to do with as they please
6. Abolishes the IRS and puts audits and filing by individuals into history
7. Finds that the 16th Amendment is oppressive to the American people and needs to be repealed
8. Simplifies the tax code
9. Conforms to the wisdom of our founders

Therefore, we the undersigned do fully support the Fair Tax Act of 2001, H.R. 2525, and demand that you make this a leading issue in Washington. We encourage your whole-hearted support and a push for passage as soon as possible. Don’t let this sit in committee, but make your voice heard in order to better the lives of all Americans and use whatever means you can to that end.
