Dear Neopets Team,
First of all, thank you for your many years of dedication to a website that millions of us enjoy.
This letter is part of a request for a full and complete list of Neopets rules. The Terms and Conditions are fine for a small, unpopular website, but Neopets is not one of those sites its uniqueness, complexity, and fame has been growing by leaps and bounds for years. What the Neopets players would like now is a clear, concise outlining of The Laws of Neopets.
Lately, there has been a rash of freezings, and while freezings are welcome for cleaning out the cheaters and scammers, many honest players have been frozen as well for breaking rules that are fuzzy and ill-defined. Some were frozen for too high a score on games such as Meerca Chase; some were frozen for loaning out items; still others were frozen for lending money to friends. There are numerous other examples as well. We appreciate the care The Neopets Team takes in trying to make the game fair for all of us, but there are many Neopians that are becoming angry, upset, or paranoid enough to make them quit for good.
Writing up a complete, clear, and thorough list of Laws for Neopia would take a little time and effort, but the advantages of writing it would be many. Once there's a clear and definite list of rules in place, the confusion between mods and players would decrease significantly. Both sides would have a clear set of lines to follow. Cheaters who don't bother to follow the rules would be more easily caught because theyd be the only ones to step over the line. Cheaters who do try to follow the rules would find themselves so restricted and singled out that many would simply lose interest in "the house that's too hard to rob." If there were a clear and easy-to-understand reference where all the existing rules are gathered together, it would make Neopians feel more secure in both everyday playing and sticky situations.
Here are some of the things wed like to see:
What we want most is a complete and clear list of the rules of Neopets in plain, easy English.
Lots of details! Details will make the rule list a success. Exactly how many points in Meerca Chase is constitutes "too much," exactly how many items can be transferred between players without being categorized as scamming, the fact that more than 40 million onhand will reset to you 0, specifics like these. The guidelines that were set forth on what can be done with extra accounts was nice and very appreciated -- if we could get a guide like that for the whole site, it would be wonderful.
When a freeze is made, a link to the exact section of the rules that was broken by the player would be very helpful.
Which broken rules will get a warning, and which will result in automatic freeze.
A link to the rules where they are easy to find, either somewhere on the front page or in the footer.
A warning in the New Features when the list of rules is changed or updated.
A long enough period of time after the first posting of the rules before they become fully enforced -- a few days or so. And please no retroactive enforcement!
It would help gain the trust of Neopets players if freezings were restricted to reasons that can be found in the list of rules. Many innocent players now are very worried about losing their accounts -- it would be wonderful if they could trust that by following the rule list, they'll be safe from freezing.
