To:  John Hoeven, Governor of North Dakota

The State of North Dakota, which claims to be our friend, is intending to introduce foreign biota into the Red River and ultimately into the Lake Winnipeg and other water sheds in Canada. At this time no one knows the ultimate effect except that it could destroy the livelihood of fishermen on our Manitoba lakes and rivers, ruin our sport fishery and tourism industries and pollute the drinking water of Manitobans.

North Dakota has refused to refer this matter to the International Joint Commission and rejected objections and pleas from not only Manitoba and Canada but also from other American states including Minnesota.

Your future and that of your children may be detrimentally affected by these actions by North Dakota. The best way to deal with this unneighbourly action is to encourage North Dakotan businesses to assist us by bringing the concerns of all Manitobans to their attention.

Sign this petition and speak with your wallet: Tell North Dakota Governor John Hoeven that you will not shop in North Dakota until he agrees to refer the Devil’s Lake Diversion Project to the International Joint Commission(IJC) as stated in the Boundary Water Treaty of 1909.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
