I Pledge Loyalty to Canada

The Canadian public should be worried our military have been and are still required to pledge allegiance and loyalty to the Queen. This is a remnant of British supremacy upon our institutions. Our Canadian soldiers, or any other organisation in Canada, should be pledging allegiance to Canada and its people, not to a foreign Queen.

Pledging allegiance to the Queen has been aesthetic for a long time. In the military it has been looked upon as a farce, a tradition, but of no meaning. A federal judge, representing the justice system in Canada, has rejected a request from a junior officer to abolish this nonsense. Prior to this, all levels of our military adjudicating offices rejected this officer's grievance.

We haven't had any conflict with England, but what if we did? When our soldiers receive conflicting orders it is always the order from the highest level that takes precedence. The Canadian Government, the highest court in Canada, and the highest levels in the Canadian Forces have all stated their wishes that we are all subordinate to the Queen.

What if England were to abandon the fight in Afghanistan. What if the Queen were to say to our soldiers to do something contrary to the orders of the Parliament of Canada? Our soldiers have clearly received confirmation that they are legally bound to obey the Queen notwithstanding any level of contradictory orders from Canada.

If Canada is thy Mother, would thy pledge allegeance and loyalty to thy Father's mistress? What would you do if thy Father were to tell you to pledge allegeance to his mistress?

With this petition, WE, the people of Canada, ask the Parliament of Canada to amend our soldiers' allegiance to read something like this:

"I pledge full allegiance and loyalty to Canada and swear to faithfully obey the laws and fulfil my duties as a citizen. I am a citizen of Canada, and I make this commitment: to uphold our democracy, laws and freedoms; to respect its people; to work for our common well-being. I reject, return and shall never use any other citizenship as long as I am a citizen of Canada."

Our soldiers deserve better.
