Students attending Post Secondary Educational institutions within the Ottawa Area are requesting for their institution to allow students affected by the OC Transpo strike to write their exams at an alternative time.
Many students rely on public transportation to maneuver around the city. As a result, this OC Transpo strike that is scheduled to start at 12:01am on December 10, 2008 will inevitably have a negative impact for any student who does not have the resources for an alternative mode of transportation.
Some Educational institutions have indicated that any student unable to attend their scheduled exam time will not be given the chance to a re-write.
Educational institutions need to understand that Students without alternative means of transportation will be penalized for something that is out of their control. This position by the Post Secondary institutions within our city, does not portray an ethical way of doing business, and goes against the very the ethics taught within our classrooms.
Students, who hold a valid bus pass and have not been able to attend their exams, should be given the opportunity to a re-write. Students rights should not be taken away or discriminated against for a strike that has severed their only means of transportation.
