Project Fund Af-Am Studies |
To: All RecipientsThis petition is one of many efforts created to save the African American Studies Program at the University of Florida by Project Fund Af-Am Studies- a coalition of concerned students and student organizations. While the African American Studies Program was established 38 years ago, it hasn’t received adequate support and resources needed to grow. The program's most recent neglect was illustrated by a 67% budget cut in fall of 2006. Currently the African American Studies program only offers a minor to students interested in this field of study. The signer of this petition wants to see growth in the African American Studies Program at the University of Florida, specifically for the program to expand to its full capacity as a department and subsequently offer a major. The University of Florida strives to be a top-ten university. This feat first requires that it be committed to diversity.
Sincerely,
