We, the undersigned, would like to petition the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, along with Virginia Governor Mark Warner, to continue to keep Sundays as non-hunting days.

In recent years, the incidents of hunting accidents involving, hunters, dogs, private property and the general public have risen. Serious consideration should be given before another day is alloted so that these statistics are not given the opportunity to continue to grow.

While we do understand that many of Virginias sportsman feel that they need an extra day allotted to hunting, our concerns are strictly for the states wildlife and the effect that hunting has on our ecosystem. Much of Virginias game species are left to suffer and die along roadways and in the forests due to the fact that they suffer non-immediately fatal injuries.

To allow another day for hunting should be considered a serious threat to Virginias wildlife and the general public safety and welfare. There is no possible ecological benefit to adding another day for hunting and its possible that allowing hunters another day could actually be a detriment to our wildlife.

We would greatly appreciate if this matter were given serious consideration. We are confident that, upon seeing the overwhelming number of citizens interested in the welfare and humane treatment of Virginias wildlife, we can keep Sundays as non hunting days.
