Repeal Oakland Parking Increase |
To: Oakland City CouncilRepeal the extended hours and increased parking fees.
Oakland's citizens have lost confidence in their City Council. Faced with a revenue shortfall, did the Council reduce expenditures to match revenues? No. Did the Council seek the People's approval for a tax increase? No.
Instead, the Council circumvented the People and balanced the budget by extending hours for paid parking and raising parking rates. This scheme is a significant burden on many who cannot afford it. It is in effect a $4.00 tax on the cost of a movie or dinner. It threatens the livelihood of Oakland businesses. It is bad for Oakland. And it is an end-run on the will of the People.
We the People of Oakland call on the Council to repeal the new parking scheme.Sincerely,
