In Support of the Oppressed People of Parachinar

This petition is intended to highlight the condition of Parachinar, a federally administered tribal area (F.A.T.A), and the plight of the people living in the area.

Over the past few years, the Government of Pakistan has been unable to handle the law and order situation of its frontier and tribal areas. This has lead to unrest, terrorism and loss of innocent lives.

One such region that has been in a condition of turmoil is Parachinar. Many issues confront the people of this region, and bare minimum necessities of daily life are unavailable. Educational institutions have been shut down and even matriculation examinations have been cancelled.

In the last 14 months at least 200 people have been martyred and 2500 have been injured at the hands of blood thirsty criminals. The main Thal-Peshawar Road has been closed for the last several months. The one day it was opened resulted in killing and beheading of passengers. Other roads are closed as well, and one can only enter the region from Afghanistan. Unfortunately, this is also a very dangerous road and resulted in the murder of civilians who tried to use this route. Medical assistance is lacking in Parachinar. The area is surrounded by militants. If anyone tries to leave, that person is arrested and killed. The overall situation there is getting bad to worse day by day.

Parachinar is the only location in F.A.T.A. where Shia Muslims predominantly live. Militants surround the area and there is no order in this area. The Government of Pakistan has clearly failed at protecting Parachinar from those who want to create unrest.

The situation in Parachinar is nothing but a form of ethnic cleansing of Shia Muslims and the world has not seen any meaningful or substantial actions by the Government of Pakistan in easing the situation.

We strongly urge the Government of Pakistan to be fair and just in dealing with the crisis in Parachinar, both in terms of improving the security situation as well as providing basic humanitarian needs.
