In questi ultimi mesi abbiamo assistito ad uno stillicidio di notizie riguardanti la Moto Guzzi che ci ha profondamente allarmato.
In primis la liquidazione della Moto Guzzi SpA che cessa di esistere e che rende di fatto Moto Guzzi nulla più che un marchio vuoto come Laverda o Gilera, senza alcun legame con una realtà produttiva unica e specifica. E poco dopo l'annuncio della cassa integrazione per due mesi a Mandello per via dei lavori di "ristrutturazione"del sito di Via Parodi. Le virgolette sono quelle che si leggono su tutti i giornali, giacché la bontà delle intenzioni di Piaggio è palesemente contestata da stampa e dai sindacati che paventano che si tratti di un licenziamento mascherato, del primo passo per sbarazzarsi definitivamente di Mandello.
Con questa lettera aperta vorremmo esprimere da un lato la nostra vicinanza ai lavoratori e alle loro famiglie colpiti da questa cassa integrazione così anomala, e dall’altra il nostro sgomento nel
constatare come, in un periodo cruciale - a ridosso dei due più importanti saloni motociclistici d'Europa, la Piaggio non sappia precisare la propria posizione ma lasci che la ridda di voci su Mandello si espanda a dismisura arrecando l'ennesimo danno di immagine al marchio Moto Guzzi.

Troviamo allucinante il perdurare ed il moltiplicarsi sui giornali e sul web di voci quanto più divergenti sulle strategie di Piaggio in materia e l'assenza pressoché totale di risposte nette da parte di Piaggio che ad oggi si è limitata ad una goffa smentita di circostanza che non ha convinto nessuna delle parti in causa. Vorremmo che i dirigenti Piaggio dicessero forte e chiaro cosa hanno in mente: si descriva dettagliatamente il restauro in corso e la tempistica e si chiarisca una volta per tutto quale è il futuro che Piaggio immagina per la fabbrica al 57 di Via Parodi: quali attività, quanti addetti, con quali mansioni e in quanto tempo intende farlo.

Si chiariscano subito i punti ambigui: nessuno crede che per rinnovare una fabbrica servano davvero 5 anni né che 12.5 milioni di euro rappresentino un investimento tale da giustificare tempi così
lunghi. Piaggio chiarisca, faccia luce e spazzi via i dubbi.

Chiediamo quindi a chi di dovere in Piaggio, un intervento deciso, chiaro, che dimostri se e quanto la Piaggio abbia intenzione di investire nel rilancio della Moto Guzzi di Mandello del Lario:
di quello che è a tutti gli effetti un Patrimonio dell'Italia tutta che può e deve essere difeso e rilanciato con forza e non mortificato e ridotto ad un badge senza valore. Riteniamo che la Fabbrica di Mandello del Lario sia un imprescindibile elemento del valore aggiunto che al nome Moto Guzzi viene riconosciuto in tutto il mondo.
Come sede produttiva e cuore propulsivo della Moto Guzzi e non già come vuoto involucro museale dal destino incerto.

En ces derniers mois, nous avons assisté à un stillicide de rumeurs concernant Moto Guzzi qui nous a véritablement alarmés.

Avant tout la liquidation de Moto Guzzi SpA qui cesse son existence et qui rend de fait Moto Guzzi rien plus qu’une marque vide, tel Laverda ou Gilera, sans aucun lien avec une réalité productive unique e spécifique.

Et, peu de temps après, l’annonce de la fermeture du site de Mandello pendant deux mois, suite aux travaux de « restructuration » de l’usine. Les guillemets sont celles qu’on peut lire sur tous les journaux, comme quoi la bonne foi de Piaggio est ouvertement contestée de part de la presse et des syndicats, qui craignent qu’il s’agisse d’un licenciement caché, d’un premier pas pour se débarrasser définitivement de Mandello.

Avec cette missive nous voudrons exprimer, d’une part, une pensée aux employés et à leurs familles, frappé par cette fermeture si bizarre et de l’autre notre étonnement en constatant comme, dans une période si cruciale – aux marges des deux plus important salons de la moto d’Europe – Piaggio ne sache pas préciser sa propre position, mais, au contraire, laisse les bruits de couloirs sur Mandello se propager outre mesure en apportant, encore une fois, préjudice à l’image de la marque.

Nous sommes étonnés devant la persistance et la prolifération, sur la presse et sur la toile, des bruits si diamétralement opposés sur les stratégies de Piaggio en matière et l’absence presque absolue des réponses claires de sa part, elle que, jusqu’à présent, s’est limitée à une maladroite démentie de circonstance qui n’a pas su convaincre aucune des parties en cause.

Nous voudrons que les dirigeants Piaggio disent haut et clair ce qui comptent faire ; qu’on nous décrive dans le détail la restructuration en cours et le planning concernant et qu’on nous éclaircisse une fois pour toutes quel est le futur que Piaggio prévoit pour l’usine aux « 57, via Parodi » : quelles activités, combien d’employés et avec quelles fonctions et en combien de temps ça sera mis en ouvre.

Qu’on nous éclaircisse de suite sur les aspect ambiguës : personne ne croit que pour renouveler une usine soient vraiment nécessaires cinq ans, ni que 12.5 millions d’euros puissent représenter un investissement tel à justifier des temps si longues. Que Piaggio nous explique, qu’elle fasse la lumière et qu’elle éloigne tous les doutes.

Nous demandons, donc, à qui de compétence en Piaggio, une intervention nette et claire, qui puisse montrer combien Piaggio aie volonté d’investir dans la relance de Moto Guzzi de Mandello del Lario : de ce qui est à tous les effets un Patrimoine de l’Italie entière qui peut et doit être défendu et relancé avec force et pas, au contraire, mortifié et réduit à un autocollant (se ho ben capito cosa si intende per badge, ndr) sans aucun valeur.
Nous croyons que l’Usine de Mandello del Lario soit un élément essentiel dans la valeur qui est attribuée au nom Moto Guzzi dans le monde entier : en étant le centre productif et le cœur battant de Moto Guzzi et pas une coque vide, un musée à l’avenir incertain.

Open letter to Piaggio leadership concerning the situation of Moto Guzzi

The last few months have witnessed an avalanche of rumours concerning Moto Guzzi which have truly alarmed us.

Above all, the liquidation of Moto Guzzi SpA which ceases to exist and which de facto turns Moto Guzzi into nothing more than an empty brand name, such as Laverda or Gilera, without any link to a single specific and productive reality.

Then, little time afterwards, the announcement that the Mandello site will be closing for two months, to allow for a “reorganisation” of the factory. The quotation marks are those which one can read in all the newspapers, suggesting that Piaggio's bona fide is disputed openly by the press as well as the trade unions which fear that the real reason is a hidden dismissal, a first step to get rid definitively of Mandello.

With this letter we would like to express, on the one hand, a thought to the employees and their families, struck by this so odd closing. On the other our hand, we would like to communicate our astonishment that Piaggio cannot define its own position, during so crucial a time frame - which also sees two of the most important motorcycle trade shows held in Europe. On the contrary, Piaggio lets the rumours on Mandello be propagated in measures beyond proportion, damaging, once again, the brand image.

We are amazed about the persistence and proliferation, in the press and on the Web, of such diametrically opposed rumours on Piaggio's strategies and, even more so, about the almost absolute absence of clear answers from your part. Instead, Piaggio limited themselves until now to an awkward ad-hoc contradiction which did not convince anyone.

We ask that the Piaggio leadership makes a clear statement of intent; please describe to us in detail the reorganisation that is in progress and its planning. Please let it be clear once and for all what future Piaggio foresees for the factory at the “57, via Parodi”: which processes will continue to take place there, with what number of employees with which functions and on what timeline.

Please also enlighten us concerning the ambiguous aspects of the operation: nobody believes that five years are really necessary to renew a factory, nor that 12.5 million euros can represent an investment large enough to justify such a long time span. Let Piaggio explain and enlighten us, taking away all our doubts.

We ask, therefore, a clear statement from those who are competent in such matters at Piaggio, which shows how much Piaggio is willing to invest in the revival of Moto Guzzi of Mandello del Lario. The revival of a company that is without doubt a national heritage of the whole of Italy which can and must be defended and started again with force and not, on the contrary, starved and reduced to a badge without any value.

We believe that the Factory of Mandello del Lario is to be an essential component in the value which is attributed throughout the world to the Moto Guzzi name: the productive centre and the beating heart of Moto Guzzi, and not an empty hull, a museum with an uncertain future.
