We, the undersigned, call on the Athens-Clarke County government to rethink how the law enforcement officials conduct order and make marijuana possession the lowest priority for our police. We call for the decriminalization of simple possession of 7 grams of marijuana for adults eighteen years and older, and reforming the penalties from a criminal offense to a civil fine of $100.
We ask that no other filing or pleading be attached to our petition, and that it be voted on by its own merit, and if the vote is in favor of our petition, that the City will accept the deprioritization of small marijuana offenses.
We ask that this issue be put to a vote by each registered citizen of this city, and its results be final as a decision by the people for the people.
