Save Queens Libraries |
To: Queens, NY Elected City OfficialsWe, the undersigned, recognize that the Queens Library branches provide essential resources and services to the people of Queens, NY.
As parents, seniors, students, new Americans, business owners and week-long workers, we know how important our libraries are in keeping our communities vital and informed.
Queens Library faces a proposed $6.9 million budget cut this fiscal year, in addition to the $2.17 million cut sustained last year (FY 2008). If this additional cut happens, library doors will close on the weekends, weekday service will be reduced, slated library renovations may be delayed, and the budget for books reduced – that would be thousands of books denied to our children’s education, and to working adults striving for a better future for themselves and their families.
Our library branches are cornerstones of our neighborhoods, offering enrichment, enlightenment, diversity, understanding and hope.
Queens Library cannot afford further budget cuts. We, the voters, respectfully yet strongly urge you to fully fund our public libraries – for our shared future.
Sincerely,
