On June 15, 2005, various news services reported that actor Vin Diesel signed a contract with 20th Century Fox to star as "Agent 47" in the much-anticipated film adaption of the "Hitman" video game series. Although many of us are upset about Diesel being cast in the movie, we understand that this may have been necessary from either an artistic or marketing perspective, and, since nothing can easily be done about it at this time, we have accepted the decision.
However, we do NOT accept the possibility that Vin Diesel's likeness and voice may be featured in upcoming "Hitman" video games. It is to our understanding that Eidos, Io Interactive, and Tigon Studios are discussing replacing 47's current in-game likeness with that of Vin Diesel, and replacing David Bateson's voice with his, as well.
Vin Diesel starring in a "Hitman" movie is forgivable-- Vin Diesel permanently replacing what we now know as 47 is not. Other established video games have not changed the appearance of their main character to match a film version's actor, and neither should "Hitman."
As loyal "Hitman" fans, we feel that putting Vin Diesel's likeness into future games would be a disaster for one of the most intelligent, innovative, and technically remarkable video game franchises. Therefore, we strongly urge you to keep Vin Diesel on the big screen and out of our games. Otherwise, we feel the integrity of the "Hitman" series will be damaged, and we will be forced to reconsider supporting the franchise and continuing to play "Hitman" video games.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
