Professor Norman Cornett has been teaching at McGill University for over 13 years. During his time here he has continually challenged a generation of students to think outside the box and to care about others, especially those most different from themselves. Rather than the conventional 25-30-35 breakdown of McGill classes, Cornett challenges his students through dialogic sessions, fieldtrips and reflections on the material covered. Everyone from Hollywood A-listers to former Canadian Prime Ministers has swung by his class.
Despite this the Faculty of Religious Studies is trying to fire Cornett, who is not a tenured Professor. They are afraid that his courses are too "inter-disciplinary" and threaten the autonomy of the Faculty of Religious Studies. Only we, the students of McGill University can stop this from happening and keep Cornett teaching.
We call on McGill University's Faculty of Religious Studies to unequivocally and unconditionally REPEAL the decision to fire Norman Cornett for our good and the good of students to come.
