Rural Northumberland for High Speed Internet

Looks like this will be happening through XploreNet wireless sometime in the near future as they have been granted the contract with the county for their wireless service. For some of us (the lucky few) Rogers Portable is available. You will need to go to www.rogers.com to check it out. NEW - Hilltopnet.com available in many areas and they are local in Roseneath!

To:  Dial-up Users in Northumberland County, Ontario Canada

For years, Northumberland County, in the Province of Ontario, has been under service where high speed Internet is concerned. Only those along Hwy #2 and only a handful of rural communities are being serviced. This has left many businesses and residents at a disadvantage in Northern Rural communities such as Roseneath, Bewdley, Harwood and Gores Landing.

Recently Xplornet had United TV in Cobourg send out postcards stating that "Broadband Everywhere", which was supposed to happen. Xplornet had stated to the staff at Untied TV that there would be a Wireless receiver put up on the tower on County Road 9. This led people to believe that their service would be available in the near future for those in these under serviced areas. Since these postcards were sent out Xplornet has decided not to follow through with what they had told the staff at United TV.

With the innovation of Wireless High Speed Internet there is no reason for our Rural Communities to be so lacking in this technology being available to us.

Therefore, we, the residents of rural Northumberland County, being sorely under serviced, are petitioning the CRTC to take action to get communication companies, such as Xplornet and Bell, who offer High Speed Internet, to service our Rural Communities immediately.
