The Lord of the Rings “RETURN OF THE SCENES” Petition!


Dear Mr. Jackson, Ms. Walsh, and Ms. Boyens:

We are fans of The Lord of the Rings, both J.R.R. Tolkien's great myth and your outstanding cinematic realization of these beloved books.

We would like to thank you, the actors, Weta, and your team for pouring your hearts and souls into The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You have created a cinematic masterpiece from an "unfilmable" book. Your Middle Earth is more alive and full-bodied than we could have hoped for in our wildest dreams. It is eminently clear that you are fans of the books and respect the profound meaning this story holds for its legions of multi-generational followers.

We also understand that to keep this film to a workable theatrical length, you had to make many cuts and that each one must have hurt.

Which brings this letter to its point. We not only feel your pain, we share it! We know that in no film were cuts done with more ruthless necessity than in ROTK. The previous EE-DVDs rectified many heart wrenching cuts. But from the sheer volume of great scenes filmed and then cut for ROTK, we strongly believe that 45 minutes of extra footage will be woefully inadequate for the ROTK EE.

We have waited so long to see these iconic scenes realized on film! If they are not on your extended version, we may never see them brought to life. You have earned our trust because you have handled these films with consummate skill. Please don't make us the geek version of the war-wounded! We beg you, please show us all that you have done!

Even if the EE-ROTK were six hours long, many devoted fans, would purchase and treasure it. The Valar endowed the DVD player with a pause button for a reason! We can handle it. If you filmed it, we really do want to see it.

In short, we ask that you extend the ROTK--EE significantly beyond the extra time allotted to the previous EE editions. We assure you that the fans would welcome (and pay for) an Extended DVD that includes all our treasured "lost" scenes.

We are your fans. Please grant us this boon!
