To:  Board of Selectmen and BFRT Advisory Committee, Town of Concord, Ma

· We support the development of the Concord section of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. We believe that it will be a wonderful resource that will provide tremendous benefits to our community and our environment by:

o giving our children a safe off-road route to school
o decreasing carbon emissions by reducing car traffic
o enhancing the health of all our citizens by encouraging all forms of exercise, and
o creating a place for members of our community to connect with each other and with our natural environment.

· We believe that trail accessibility to all citizens is critically important. We believe that the trail should fully and easily support a wide variety of users, including all of the following: walkers and runners, road and mountain bikers, in-line skaters, wheelchair users, cross-country skiers, scooter and tricycle riders, and families with strollers. The trail should support all ages, from the very young to the very old.

· We believe that a hard, paved surface with soft-surface shoulders maximizes accessibility and usability of the trail.

· We believe that the trail should follow the rail bed and should not be redirected onto roadways. Alternate routes along roadways reduce trail accessibility and potentially present safety issues. Trail users should be able to enjoy a peaceful, natural setting.

· We look forward to the construction of an easily accessible multi-use trail for all of Concord's citizens!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
