To:  Cornwall Council

I the undersigned support this petition against closing The Murdoch and Trevithick Centre on Lower Cardew Lane which provides activities and specialist care for people who need a high level of support. We ask Cornwall Adult Social Care to consult and to think again.

This affects people who have a learning disability and / or emotional issues. This could prevent some people from having any social contact. Also carer’s who are already under severe stress; this could be the last straw.

Day Centres are the only place where some vulnerable people have any social contact with others. As such they must be available on a need to use basis and not judged on the Cornwall Council’s budget. Likewise home care and support must be freely available and not constrained by budgets. Government must take into account age and social deprivation when setting Spending Assessments. Cornwall suffers from both of these conditions and has been under-funded for years.

We the undersigned request the Adult Social Care executive and the full Council to vote for keeping The Murdock and Trevithick Centre open as a drop in centre.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
