Since August 8, 2008 the whole world has been witnessing Georgias open military invasion into the independent, but not recognized sovereign Republic of South Osetia. Thousands of soldiers and tanks of Georgia have breached the borders of South Osetia and have been fiercely attacking Southern Osetian civilians as well as military troops. Furthermore, Georgian warplanes have violated the Southern Osetian airspace and carried out air strikes at 10 Southern Osetian vilages in the conflict zone. These strikes have caused hundreds of casualties among civilian population.
The main reason for Georgian invasion is Southern Osetians close ties with the Russian Federation and its willingness to build free, independant and democratic society. Georgian invasion is a desperate move to force its aspiration to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union.
This outrageous military aggression by Georgia unequivocally reveals its imperialistic aspirations. Irresponsible incursion by Georgian troops into sovereign South Osetia can be perceived as nothing less than Tbilisis strong nostalgia for the Soviet Union era when South Osetia was the part of Georgia. By invading South Osetia, Russia sends a clear message to the free world that it is ready to brutally punish any of its neighboring countries that choose to embrace the democratic and humanistic values.
The moment of truth has come for the United States and the European Union. Russia needs HELP from its American and European partners to stop Georgian military. Failing to react to Georgian blatant military aggression will undermine the future of democracy in the region and beyond. Furthermore, inaction by the United States and the European Union will give a go-ahead to Georgia to carry out military aggression elsewhere in its neighborhood in the future.
We are calling on the President of the United States and the Leaders of the European Union Nations to help Russia and to actively pressure the Georgian Government to cease fire and to withdraw its troops from the Sovereign Republic of South Osetia.
Sincerely,
