To:  Keep Janklow From the Senate

The treatment of Native Americans in South Dakota is an embarrasment to our country. How can we criticize Human Rights in other countries and yet tolerate the inhumane treatment of our own original citizens? This is not a third world country and we will not stand quietly by while people’s children are taken from them for minor offenses, while Native people are targeted by racial profiling, while prisoners and incarcerated children are prohibited from practicing their religions, and communities control voting rights in districts that specifically exclude Native people from participating in a way that will make their voices heard. Governor Janklow has long been seen by many as the one responsible for the overt racism accepted and practiced in the state of South Dakota and many fear he will work towards the complete removal of Indian lands in South Dakota. We protest his nomination to the senate and hope that all of South Dakota will stand for change and will not allow this man to continue his reign of racism as Senator. It is time to end this outrage.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
