Transparency For the Admiralty Board

This petition is to request that the Admiralty Board (AB) open its deliberations to the members of Starfleet International (SFI). It is important that members know what motions are being brought before it and the results of the voting upon these motions for the following reasons:

The AB is composed of the Commander Starfleet (CS) and the Regional Coordinators (RC) all of whom are elected officials. As members we have the basic right to know how the representatives we have elected perform. Publishing the up or down result in the CQ, often many months after the vote is taken, is neither adequate to understand the issue at hand or timely enough for we the members to get comments to our RC prior to the AB vote.

The members of SFI are passionate, knowledgeable and engaged. Many members would like to get involved and participate in the process; the current closed-door nature of the AB means members often act on rumors, innuendo and hearsay regarding what the AB is working on. Making the AB actions transparent would mean members act and debate upon the facts. Open and vigorous debate upon the facts by any organization will only strengthen it.

The members of the AB are likewise passionate, knowledgeable and engaged. Like any group of humans they can get caught up in there zeal to get the job done. Recently, it would seem that a member of SFI almost had his membership suspended by the AB prior to the results of the Inspector General (IG) investigation; in other words without due process. Making the workings of the AB transparent might have prevented this instance and should prevent a similar occurrence from occurring in the future.

Whenever possible the IG reports should be made public. This allows the members to, as above, comment and debate on the actual facts. Keeping the facts open to all minimizes rumors and innuendo. If the AB wishes to take any action against a member, then it should fully explain why they felt it was necessary. Taking action against a member is one of the most serious motions that can come to the AB. The members should be completely informed what actions our elected officials do in these instances.
