Basingstoke & Deane Planning Department are asking the Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council to endorse a plan that could result in up to 10,000 homes being built in the Loddon Valley adjacent to Old Basing, Chineham and Newnham.
We, the undersigned, are against this unsustainable proposal. We put the Council on notice that we will hold them responsible for the consequences of adopting this proposal and that the plan as it stands:
- ignores advice from The Environment Agency which specifically advises against building homes here,
- has no adequate account of the very significant dangers of flooding caused by development of this kind,
- ignores the threat to the unique natural benefits of the valley and its world famous chalk stream,
- has no credible plan to finance or manage the impact on a local infrastructure (roads, sewers, water, power) that does not cope with existing demand, let alone a significant increase in population.
