On March 15, 2006, the Star Ledger ran an article titled "S. Orange Trustees Wrong on Art Project". In the article, we learn that the proposed Tony Smith Sculpture that is planned for Sloan Street (where the gazebo currently stands) is to be funded mostly by TAXPAYER DOLLARS - up to $500,000 of taxpayer dollars when there has been ZERO public discussion to spend such an enormous amount of money.

Ladies and gentlemen, you need to get active on this issue! Do you want your tax dollars to pay for expensive ART, while ART EDUCATION is being eliminated from our schools? Or how about knowing your hard-earned money isn't paying for basic structural repairs to Village Hall, the Library or our roads, but instead is paying for an expensive statue that has only been requested by a few vocal people?

It takes all of us to put a stop to this ridiculous and outright stupid waste of yours and my tax dollars, and put it where it belongs!

I urge all who read this to contact the Board of Trustees and put a stop to this atrocity immediately! Sign this petition, then send this link to everyone with an email address and urge them to do the same! Bring some publicity to this embarrassment and shame to those who would even consider this unacceptable practice!
