Gamers against SecuROM |
To: EA game developersWhat This Is All About
SecuRom logo
As you may have heard, there is a big fight going on between players of EA's games, and the company.
This has to do with a program called SecuRom, which is manufactured by Sony and installed in many games, including some of the Sims 2 PC game titles. It will be installed in Spore, and Mass Effect when they are launched. The Sims 3 will probably have it as well.
While EA has stated that SecuRom is not harmful and is indeed good for your computer, thousands of users have a different opinion. Many have had their computer systems destroyed by this software - and many have had to replace their entire system because they were not able to successfully remove Securom completely. This website will tell you what SecuRom is, what it does, and what it can do to your computer if you have it on a game on your computer.
We believe that EA has no business installing invasive, and potentially harmful computer software that opens up your computer to any kind of virus or trojan horse. SecuRom also has the capacity to allow EA to mine your computer for data that it deems is necessary to validate your game. SecuRom has no business being in your computer and we are committed to making EA stop this from happening.
But we need your help to make them see reason and change their minds about this issue.
If you want to help us, you can write EA and tell them what you think of this and to ask them to stop using Securom totally in their games. There are addresses on this webpage to write to listed below. The more people know about this issue, the better able we will be to fight EA on this, and to make them understand that their customers are not suckers waiting to be taken to the cleaners. If you don't want to write to EA, you can vote with your pocketbook. Don't buy any EA games. If EA loses 10,000 customers from their Sims 3 potential customer base that will be at least $400,000 in lost sales. That might not seem like much, but if we can get 10 times that number to not buy their games, that is very serious money, and then we believe that EA will finally listen to us.
Money talks. Make your voice heard at EA's Corporate Headquarters.Sincerely,
