Dear Sir,

We the undersigned, citizens of India, are gravely concerned about
ongoing violations of human rights of political activists in different
parts of West Bengal over the last few years. We have witnessed a
continuous use of force and suppression on the political activities in
the state and the political activists from different organizations are being falsely
charged in serious criminal cases. There are approximately
450 political prisoners in West Bengal along with approximately 3500
political activist who are accused in different criminal charges
(most of them have multiple cases), are presently free in bail. The political
activist are also being subjected to threat, mental and physical torture while
in lock up (in some of the cases police tortured the kith and keens of a
political activist), also they are being deprived of their status and rights as
political prisoners while in jail.

We observed that the constitutional rights of individuals and the
directions given time to time by the Supreme Court and the Kolkata High Court
on this matter are being frequently violated by the state government.
The reports of renowned human rights organizations from India and
abroad supports these facts.

This reports also shows that the function of police in West Bengal becoming more
ruthless and inhuman, at the same time extremely arrogant.

We demand:

A. All police atrocities on political opposition must stop forthwith.

B. All persons arrested for political activities be released immediately and
unconditionally.

C. All false cases registered against political activists be withdrawn
immediately.

We want you to intervene and ensure justice and rights for the political activists in
West Bengal.
