Save the Planet Vulcan from Destruction in Star Trek 11 |
To: Paramount PicturesTo: Paramount Pictures, JJ Abrams and the producers of Star Trek 11.
We respectfully request that you reconsider your decision to destroy the planet Vulcan as part of the storyline in the 11th Star Trek feature. This decision will not only ignore well-known and much loved canon about the Vulcan homeworld and its people but will also serve to distance the film from Gene Roddenberry’s original vision. An altered timeline may seemingly allow for a re-writing the Star Trek timeline. But it would also be an insult to all of the stories and characters developed by the many talented individuals, including Gene Roddenberry, who have helped define the Vulcan people in their creative efforts throughout each Star Trek production over the last 40 years. Those stories support a Vulcan planet that thrived throughout the 23rd and 24th centuries. It was not destroyed in James Kirk’s lifetime.
We are all fans of Star Trek and have a vested interest in seeing this property succeed once again. However, a story that creates a Star Trek universe that excludes Voyager’s Commander Tuvok, The original series T’Pau, Sarek and Amanda and so many other wonderful Vulcan characters even from existing is not something we support. References to the Kohlinar, Mount Seleya, and the exploration of Vulcan culture should not be so easily thrown out for the sake of a flashy script. Please show your respect for Star Trek’s unique and consistent timeline and for its many loyal fans. Do not destroy the planet Vulcan in Young Spock’s timeline. As fans of the series from past to present we cannot support a film that destroys one of the very first “strange new worlds” in Star Trek history in a way that erases all the events and characters that would later emerge.
Sincerely,
