Save The Tiger

Dear Sir,

As an ardent admirer of the pride of wild India - the Tiger, Tiger Action Force writes to bring to your urgent attention the plight of Tigers in our country.

Poaching, habitat loss and low prey density have been identified as the major causes for tiger population deterioration in most states across India. Much of this is due to incompetent law enforcement for the protection of both the Tiger and its habitat. Tiger numbers are plummeting and there are now only about 1400 tigers left in India. This is a disgrace to the Nation. Even more alarming is the fact that in the past five years, India has probably lost about 50\% of its Tiger population despite 'extensive efforts' taken by Project Tiger and the state authorities.

If we are to save the magnificent tiger, now is the time for change and setting tiger conservation as a top priority. We urge the State Govt. to co-ordinate efforts with the Prime Minister's directive to set up a Tiger Protection Task Force to ensure strict implementation of viable & sustainable solutions that incorporate science, technology & appropriate infrastructure for the protection of the Tiger and its habitat.

The Tiger Action Force believes that the Government and its citizens owe future generations the right to enjoy the Tiger as Nature's precious commodity. The survival of the Tiger in the wild is crucial to the sustainability of our eco-system, and in turn to our own survival. The very existence of the forest along with all its invaluable resources relies on the Tiger controlling the top of the food chain.

India cannot be called the 'Land of the Tiger' if there are no Tigers inhabiting our wilderness! Hence along with the citizens of our country, we beseech you to take up this cause fervently & ACT NOW before it is too late! We look forward to your active participation in conserving India's National Animal. Thank you.
