Save the City of Oakland Libraries! |
To: Mayor Ron Dellums & City Council MembersDear Mayor Ron Dellums and Members of Oakland City Council,
As a resident of the city of Oakland, CA, I am opposed to the proposed budget cuts that will result in the reduction of the public library services in all branches and in particular, the proposed budget cuts that would create reduction of services and staff at the Golden Gate Library. These proposed reduction of services and staff will dramatically reduce service hours, destroy the community center the Golden Gate Library has become for schools, neighborhood children, teens, adults, the elderly, the disabled, people without computers and unemployed adults looking for employment as well as new and long existing community group activities. The Oakland Public Libraries account for only 3% of the total budget and yet represent a valuable and inexpensive community resource for city visitors and every citizen of the city. By signing this petition, I urge City Council to oppose all reduction of service in all branches and specifically services at the Golden Gate Branch.
Sincerely,
The Save the City of Oakland Libraries!
