Bring Back Your Sinclair |
To: Future PublishingBring Back 'Your Sinclair', Petition
YS was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer magazine, the best computer magazine ever produced. It was witty [,unlike this Ed], had real technical depth while, unlike modern journals, catered for all levels. If you have wondered about the battle between content and style, YS answers it by being good at both, yes really.
When YS closed in the autumn of 1993, computer magazines turned their backs on the Spectrum, even though it had over 20,000 readers according to the last figures. Then PCW started a retro page, looking at past computers that they had reviewed. Weekly, "Micro Mart", started a one page retro column looking at the scene now (several other computer and video games magazines have retro pages). Things really started looking on the up in December 2002 when GamesTM magazine was launched with a 27 page retro section. Future Publishing, the producers of YS, sold a one off Edge Retro mag annually. At last, at the beginning of 2004 Live Publishing International Limited took the brave step of starting a Retro games magazine called "Retro Gamer" as a quarterly. Issue one sold so quickly that issue 2 was on newsagents shelves early, as the Retro Gamer went bi-monthly and added 16 extra pages. The first issue has already sold for over 15 pounds sterling on ebay. In the first issue of GamesTM and Retro Gamer, a computer from the past was looked at, in both cases it was the humble speccy.
In view of the up surge in retro magazines, the long held dream of Your Sinclair coming back could be turned into reality. It could be a quarterly (best option), or a second mag sold together with another mag. The idea could be tested with a one off trial issue. Remember Retro Gamer isa games magazine (i.e. no listing to type etc) and may cover the 16 bit computers or consoles more heavily in the future.
Sincerely,
